Notes deliver feeling much better in the shape of a heart! This is especially great for a friend, a Valentine, or your significant other. To fold a note into a heart, follow these step-by-step instructions.
Steps
- Fold a piece of rectangular paper in half lengthwise. A colored piece of paper will look nicest, but if yours is blank, you can always decorate it later.
- Repeat the fold. Fold the paper in half lengthwise a second time, bringing the top edge down to the bottom.
- Flip it over. Flip the paper over vertically so that the long, open end faces upwards. You should now be able to unfold the top edge but not the bottom edge.
- Create a center crease. Fold the paper in half short end to short end and then unfold it. There should now be a crease going down the center of your narrowly folded paper.
- Fold up the right half. Fold the right half upwards so that its left edge lines up with the center crease.
- Fold up the left half. Fold the left half upwards so that its right edge lines up with the center crease. The outline of the paper should now look like a shield.
- Flip the paper over horizontally. Make sure the point remains pointing down.
- Anchor the center. Place one finger on the intersection of the three flaps. This is where the vertical slit (between the top two flaps) meets the horizontal flap below.
- Fold down the right corner. With the other hand, grab the top left corner of the top right flap and fold it down to the right edge. The fold should begin where you’ve placed your finger.
- Tuck the point. Grab the new top left corner of the top right flap and fold it down to where you’ve placed your finger. Tuck the point of the paper below the horizontal flap.
- Repeat for the other side. Repeat Steps 9 and 10 in reverse on the top left flap. Tuck in the second point, then tape both flaps.
- Done! Decorate the heart if desired. Enjoy your heart note!

Tips
- This makes a great card for a secret admirer or an apology card for someone you have wronged.
- This is a great gift for a friend. You could even write a letter in it!
- These hearts can also be very effective as Valentine's Day decorations, or as an accompaniment to Valentine's Day prezzies.
- Fold slowly. It is detrimental to your origami if you make errors in folding and have to re-fold because you create bumps and awkward angles that shouldn't be there.
- Make sure you crease your folds firmly and crisply. You may want to press down on both sides of the piece of paper for each fold.
- You also give these hearts to your Mom or Dad on there birthday or on any special occasion.
Warnings
- Don't try this the first time on the letter that you intend on giving to your friend! Use a practice piece of paper so that when you do the real thing it will be creased just right and done perfectly.
- Using paper that is too thin (e.g., binder paper or tissue paper) can make this very difficult and unshapely. If you want to fold a heart for someone really important, invest in high quality origami paper.
