As crazy as it may sound, deep fried tequila shots are a fun way to “have your cake and eat it too.” These shots are delicious so proceed with caution.
Ingredients
- Angel food cake (cut into small bite-sized chunks)
- Tequila
- Canola oil
- Powdered sugar
Steps
- Cut the cake into bite-sized chunks. You want guests to be able to just pop them in their mouth so don’t make the pieces too large.
- Soak the cake in a bowl of tequila. Because angel food cake is highly spongy, this cake will absorb the tequila quickly.
- Don’t leave cake in the tequila for too long or else it may start to break down and disintegrate.
- Heat the oil in a deep frying pan or saucepan. Bring oil to a hot enough temperature where cake will fry instantly (but not burn).
- Don’t drop cake into oil until it is ready or else the bites will get too soggy.
- Don’t drop cake into oil until it is ready or else the bites will get too soggy.
- Remove cake from oil once bites are completely fried and transfer to a plate covered with a paper towel. Allow towel to absorb residual grease.
- Sprinkle bites with powdered sugar (lightly) and serve immediately.
- Finished.
Tips
- Serve these puppies hot in a salt-rimmed shot glass and a gummy worm on the bottom. Even a small lime wedge might be a nice touch.
- Not a fan of tequila? Substitute the booze for something you like or make it non-alcoholic.
